13thousand. - dreams
Review: 13thousand. - dreams
There’s something nostalgic about 13thousand.’s latest track, “dreams.” From the hypnotizing beats to the melodies found drifting throughout the track, I was immediately captured by the chill and laid back atmosphere found throughout this song. This is my first encounter with the producer but it only made me want to dig up more of his work and fall into these spellbinding soundscapes he so easily creates.
Born and raised in the diverse Cedar Park section of West Philadelphia, 13thousand., the youngest of four brothers, was exposed in his early years to the sounds of everything from Nas and Mobb Deep to the local The Roots and State Property crews.
After graduating from high school, 13thousand. chose to forgo college to instead join his brother in London who was pursuing a masters degree in the city. Living in and setting up his studio in a small one bedroom flat in the Hoxton neighborhood of East London, 13thousand. began to produce more lo fi and jazz-influenced hip-hop music that was reflective of the gray skies, coffee shops and council flats all around him.
